My name is Jai Joshi and this is my experience of Univeristy of Primorska, Faculty of Tourism Studies Turistica and Slovenia!
Choosing Slovenia, Portoroz for my Erasmus exchange programme is because it is a destination that I haven’t visited before in that period of time and the most exciting part of the journey is to experience a place where you wouldn’t really choose e.g. if it was between Rome, Barcelona or Sarajevo, always going for the popular destinations isn’t the best idea until you experience a whole different lifestyle. So I chose Slovenia because it gave me the opportunity to experience something totally different which has changed my life.
Opinion about faculty/company?
Turistica in my opinion has an outstanding system that I was impressed with and very happy to recommend to join and student in a great environment with top-class lecturers. The Erasmus coordinators in Portoroz, in Turistica are the friendliest two people you will ever meet in your life and I fully recommend if you have any questions contact them and 100% they will get back to you.
When arriving in Slovenia my first impression was the beauty that this country has is on another level, there is so much to see. Portoroz, Slovenia is a well visited destination mainly for tourists and the reality is that Slovenia has a lot to offer.
Local culture & habits?
Slovenia in general has a lot of culture to show all around the country, there are many locations within Slovenia that is a must visit. One of my habits while in Slovenia was travelling all around Slovenia to see the beauty of nature that Europe hasn’t seen.
Firstly Piran is a beautiful place to visit full of history and culture, Portoroz has the coast with Piran as well and many hotels with pure class beauty. Ljubljana the capital of Slovenia is very small city but is now one of the most beautiful in Europe and is developing faster as we speak. Lake bled is also the most famous lake in all Slovenia and has amazing views for taking pictures. Slovenia also has Europe’s biggest cave which is very popular tourist attraction and finally Maribor is a super destination for skiing.
Culinary & student meals?
The best part of living in Slovenia was the discounted student meals, which basically would normally cost a lot worked out to be cheaper with having 30 credits on your mobile telephone and depending on the meal it is worth a number of points.
Accommodation?
My time living in Djaki was great because the view from my kitchen window was amazing and from my bedroom was even better with a view of the whole coast. The rooms are shared with one extra person, but it is recommended as this is give you the best opportunity to meet you people and always be around people who also are in Slovenia on the same purpose as you, Erasmus life is to enjoy.
Nightlife?
The nightlife is great in Slovenia, the cost is not that much and is a good time to go out as there are a lot of students where you can meet a lot of exchange and local people.
Costs?
The cost of living in Slovenia per month is around 250 euros which isn’t too much depending if you like to travel like me, the cost of accommodation is cheap and with discounted prices on food saves a lot of extra money.
Pros & cons?
Overall my time in Slovenia was the best I ever had in my life that changed me as a person to become stronger and independent.
Other?
The best experiences that turned out to be great adventures when taking part in the trips to other destinations in Bosnia was a great time to meet a lot of different people and really have a great time. I recommend Slovenia 100% and guarantee that the coordinators will help you step by step, and don’t miss out on the best festival of Turizmijada that is the best trip I have ever experienced meeting a lot of new people and becoming great friends.

Transport?
The transport in Portoroz for buses is pretty good, but in my experience I was lucky enough to travel around in my friend’s car, but on the other hand the service is very good and is a lot faster.
